VENTAR Salbutamol 1mg / mL Nebulizing Solution 15mL
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Usual Adult Dose: 4 mg or 10 mL (2 teaspoonfuls) or as prescribed by the physician. If adequate bronchodilation is not obtained, each single dose may be gradually increased to as much as 8 mg or 20 mL (4 teaspoonfuls).
Some patients obtain adequate relief with 5 mL known to be unusually sensitive to β-adrenergic stimulant drugs. It is advisable to initiate treatment with 5 mL (1 teaspoonful) three or four times a day.
See table.
Usual Adult and Adolescent Dose: The usual initial dose of salbutamol by wet inhalation is 2.5 mg to 5 mg. Treatment may be repeated up to 4 times daily. In adults, higher dosing up to 40 mg/day can be given under strict medical supervision in hospital for the treatment of severe airway obstruction.
Children up to 12 years of age: Dosage has not been established.
Note: As there may be adverse effects associated with excessive dosing, the dosage or frequency of administration should only be increased on medical advice.

Storage
Action
Pharmacokinetics: Tablet & Syrup: After oral administration, salbutamol is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and undergoes considerable first-pass metabolism to the phenolic sulphate. Both unchanged drug and conjugate are excreted primarily in the urine. The bioavailability of orally administered salbutamol is about 50%.
Nebulizing solution: When given by inhalation, 10 to 20% of the dose reaches the lower airways. The remainder is retained in the delivery system or is swallowed and absorbed from the gut. Salbutamol is rapidly excreted, mainly in the urine, as metabolites and unchanged drug; a smaller proportion is excreted in faeces.
