Indications / Uses of NEOBLOC Metoprolol 50mg Tablet

Metoprolol is a beta-blocker used to treat high blood pressure, control angina, manage irregular heartbeats, prevent migraines, and treat hyperthyroidism. It also helps prevent additional heart attacks during recovery or in the early stages of a heart attack.

What are the side-effects of NEOBLOC Metoprolol 50mg Tablet?

Metoprolol can cause side effects, though not everyone experiences them. If you notice any of the following, stop taking the medication and contact your doctor or go to the emergency department immediately:

Rare side effects:

Wheezing, coughing, or worsening asthma
Heart failure (swollen ankles, breathlessness)

Very rare side effects:

Gangrene

Unknown frequency:

Retroperitoneal fibrosis (pain in the back, groin, or lower abdomen)
Symptoms of hepatitis (nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, general unwellness, fever, itching, yellowing of skin and eyes, light-colored stools, dark urine)

Dosage / Direction for Use of NEOBLOC Metoprolol 50mg Tablet

Adults

Recommended Dosage:

High Blood Pressure: Start with 100 mg once daily; dosage may be increased weekly as needed.
Angina: 50–100 mg two or three times a day.
Irregular Heartbeat/Palpitations: 50 mg two or three times a day, up to a maximum of 300 mg daily.
Migraine Prevention: 100–200 mg divided into morning and evening doses.
Overactive Thyroid Gland: 50 mg four times a day.
Preventing Heart Attack/Severe Chest Pain: 50 mg every six hours for two days, starting 15 minutes after the last injection, then up to 100 mg twice daily.

Older Adults

Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose based on your individual needs.

Patients with Liver Problems

If you have liver issues, your doctor will prescribe a lower dose of Metoprolol.

Children and Adolescents

Metoprolol is not recommended for use in children or adolescents.

Contraindications

Do not take Metoprolol if you:
