Indications / Uses
CATAPRES 75mg is used for the management of hypertension, helping to lower high blood pressure levels. CATAPRES is particularly beneficial for those requiring steady control of blood pressure, reducing the potential risks associated with hypertension. This medication can also be used for managing certain withdrawal symptoms.

These side effects are generally mild and often decrease over time with continued use. If unusual symptoms persist, it is advisable to discontinue use. Monitoring individual responses to the medication is important, especially during the initial phase of treatment.
Dosage / Direction
The dosage of CATAPRES 75mg initially, 50-100 mcg three time a day, gradually increased every 2nd or 3rd day according to response.
Maintenance: 300-1,200 mcg daily in divided doses.
Catapres dosage for emergency hypertension
Oral clonidine hydrochloride is a safe and effective method for rapidly controlling severely elevated blood pressure in hypertensive emergencies. Typically, it is started with an initial dose of 0.1 to 0.2 mg, followed by hourly doses of 0.05 or 0.1 mg until the target blood pressure is reached or up to a total dose of 0.7 mg. This approach significantly reduces blood pressure in 93% of patients, offering a smooth, predictable reduction with minimal side effects. It is cost-effective and reduces the need for hospitalization or intravenous lines. Patients not hospitalized should have a follow-up visit within 24 hours for medication adjustments.
Contraindications
Severe bradyarrhythmia secondary to 2nd- or 3rd-degree AV block or sick sinus syndrome. Epidural administration: Inj site infection, concomitant anticoagulant therapy, bleeding diathesis, administration above the C4 dermatome.
