Indications/Uses
It is used in symptomatic management of pain fever and for pyrexia. Valuable for patients in whom aspirin is contraindicated (e.g. Patients with peptical) or when prolongation of bleeding time caused by aspirin would be a disadvantage.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Oral route.
Adults and children 12 year old and above: 1-2 tablets every 6 hours, as needed for pain and fever, or, as directed by a doctor.
Do not take more than 4000 mg Paracetamol and 520 mg of Caffeine (8 tablets) in each 24-hour period.
Missed Dose: If the patient missed a dose, take the next dose if still needed for pain and/or fever and the subsequent dose every 4 to 6 hours thereafter.
DO NOT DOUBLE THE DOSE.

Overdosage
Signs and Symptoms of Overdose: Chronic overdose has led to T-cell defects in one patient. There have been instances of patients abusing Paracetamol for its purging effect in high dosage.
Treatment: Treatment of Paracetamol overdose involves gastric lavage and administration of acetylcysteine (or sometimes methionine) to increase glutathione stores and perhaps stimulate the non-toxic metabolism of Paracetamol.

Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients receiving treatment with Chloramphenicol and have known hypersensitivity to Paracetamol and/or Caffeine anhydrous.
Warnings
Do not take for pain more than 10 days or for fever more than 3 days unless directed by physician. May cause problem in the unborn child or complications during delivery.

Paracetamol should be given with care to patients with impaired kidney functions.

Adverse Reactions
Paracetamol when taken within the recommended dose and duration of treatment, has low incidence of side effects.
Skin rashes, hypersensitivity reactions, changes in the number of white blood cells and platelets, and minor stomach and intestinal disturbances have been reported.
