Indications / Uses

GAVISCON Oral Suspension 10ml is used for the prompt and enduring relief of symptoms related to gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD). This includes discomfort such as acid regurgitation, a burning sensation in the chest (heartburn), and indigestion caused by the backflow of stomach contents. The product works quickly by creating a protective layer that floats on top of the stomach's contents, providing a physical barrier against reflux into the esophagus while also neutralizing excess acid.

Formulation / Ingredients

GAVISCON Oral Suspension 10ml contains: Sodium Alginate 500mg + Sodium Bicarbonate 267mg + Calcium Carbonate 160mg per 10ml.

Side Effects

GAVISCON Oral Suspension 10ml common side effects include mild, temporary digestive issues such as a sensation of fullness (bloating) and flatulence. Rarely, users may experience changes in bowel movement, such as diarrhea or constipation. In extremely rare instances, allergic reactions, which may present as hives, respiratory difficulties, or swelling of the face, could occur. If symptoms do not improve after 7 days, attention should be sought.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults and Kids (12+ years): 1 to 2 sachets (10–20 mL) after meals and at bedtime. Do not exceed 80 mL in 24 hours.
• Dosage for Kids under 12 years: Should only be administered if specifically advised.

Not generally recommended for children under 12 years. Maximum treatment duration: 7 days unless symptoms persist.

Contraindications

This product is not suitable for individuals with a known sensitivity to any of its components. It should be avoided by those with severely reduced kidney function, those with high calcium levels in the blood, or patients who have a history of calcium-containing kidney stones. Caution is required for patients adhering to a highly restricted low-salt regimen.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

This preparation can be used during this time. Extensive post-marketing data and clinical studies suggest no harmful effects on the unborn or nursing baby. Due to the presence of one of the alkaline ingredients, it is best to limit the duration of use as much as possible.

Special Precautions

This preparation contains a significant amount of sodium and calcium. Use with caution for those on a low-sodium diet, such as patients with certain heart conditions or kidney issues.

• Requires careful use if a highly restricted salt diet is needed.
• Caution is advised for patients who have hypercalcaemia (high calcium levels).
• Do not use continuously for more than 7 days without seeking attention for persistent symptoms.
• Continuous and prolonged use should be avoided to prevent potential health complications.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

The preparation can decrease the absorption of other orally taken treatments, including certain antibiotics and heart medications, due to its neutralizing action. To ensure the full effectiveness of all treatments, separate the ingestion of this preparation from other medications by a time interval of at least 2 hours.
