GAVISCON DOUBLE ACTION Oral Suspension 10ml is used for the prompt and powerful dual relief of symptoms associated with gastro-esophageal reflux (GERD), including acid regurgitation, a burning sensation in the chest (heartburn), and discomfort from indigestion or excess stomach acid. The unique formula works by creating a strong protective raft on top of the stomach contents to physically block reflux and soothe the esophagus, while its antacid ingredients quickly neutralize rising acidity. This two-pronged approach provides fast-acting and lasting relief, making it effective for discomfort experienced following meals or during pregnancy.

Side Effects

GAVISCON DOUBLE ACTION Oral Suspension 10ml common side effects include mild, temporary digestive issues such as stomach cramps, flatulence, and constipation. In rare instances, sensitivity reactions to the components may occur, potentially causing symptoms like a skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing. Regular use of high doses for extended periods may lead to elevated calcium levels in the blood, or a rebound increase in stomach acid levels.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults and Adolescents (12+ years): 1 to 2 sachets (10–20 mL) after meals and at bedtime. Do not exceed 8 sachets (80 mL) in 24 hours.
• Dosage for Kids under 12 years: Not generally advised for this age group.

Maximum treatment duration: 7 days unless symptoms persist.

Contraindications

This product is unsuitable for individuals with a known sensitivity to any of its components. It is also contraindicated in those with severely impaired kidney function, elevated calcium levels in the blood (hypercalcaemia), or a history of calcium-containing kidney stones. Caution is also necessary for patients adhering to a highly restricted salt diet.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

This preparation is considered safe for use during pregnancy and while nursing a baby. Clinical evidence and post-marketing surveillance suggest no harmful effects on the unborn or nursing infant. Treatment duration should be limited as much as possible due to the presence of an alkaline ingredient.

Special Precautions

• Care is necessary for individuals on a controlled or restricted salt regimen, such as those with certain heart conditions or kidney issues, due to the presence of sodium.
• Use with caution if high calcium levels in the blood are present.
• Avoid prolonged and continuous use for more than 7 days without reassessment of symptoms.
• There is a possibility of reduced effectiveness in patients who have very low levels of gastric acid.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

This preparation may reduce the absorption of other orally taken treatments, including certain antibiotics, iron preparations, and thyroid hormones. A time interval of at least 2 hours must be observed between the intake of this product and any other medicinal products to ensure full efficacy of all treatments.

How should I store it?
