Indications / Uses

GAVISCON Chewable Tablet is used for providing effective relief from the symptoms of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and related discomforts. This includes managing acid regurgitation, heartburn, and common indigestion that results from the reflux of stomach contents. The unique combination of ingredients quickly creates a protective barrier that floats on the stomach contents while also neutralizing excess stomach acid. This dual action helps quickly soothe the burning sensation in the chest and relieve upset stomach.

GAVISCON Chewable Tablet contains: Sodium Alginate 250mg + Sodium Bicarbonate 133.50mg + Calcium Carbonate 80mg

Side Effects

GAVISCON Chewable Tablet common side effects include minor gastrointestinal discomfort such as burping, flatulence, or feeling bloated, especially when maximum dosage is taken. Some individuals may experience changes in bowel habits like constipation or, rarely, diarrhea. In exceptionally rare instances, a serious allergic reaction may occur, presenting as skin rash, difficulty breathing, dizziness, or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat. Prolonged use of high doses may also lead to elevated calcium levels in the blood.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults and Kids (12+ years): 2 to 4 tablets taken after meals and at bedtime. Do not exceed 16 tablets in 24 hours.
• Dosage for Kids under 12 years: Not recommended for use without specific guidance.

Maximum treatment duration is 7 days unless continuous use is necessary for symptom management.

Contraindications

The product should be avoided if there is a known hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the components. Caution is advised for use by individuals with severe kidney problems or those who have excessively high levels of calcium in their blood. It is also not suitable for people diagnosed with very low or absent stomach acid.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

This medication can be used safely throughout pregnancy and while breast-feeding. However, treatment duration should be limited to the minimum time necessary to achieve symptom relief.

Special Precautions

• If you have heart failure or are on a low-salt diet, note that this medicine contains sodium.
• Exercise caution if you have kidney problems or high blood pressure, as the salt and calcium content may be a concern.
• If you have phenylketonuria (PKU), be aware that the formulation contains aspartame, a source of phenylalanine.
• The use of this product can potentially mask symptoms of other underlying health conditions.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

A time interval of 2 hours should be maintained between taking this product and any other oral medications. This separation is crucial because it can interfere with the absorption and overall action of other medicines like certain antibiotics or iron preparations.

How should I store it?

Keep the medicine stored in its original packaging at a moderate room temperature. It must be kept protected from both excessive heat and moisture to maintain its efficacy.
