BISACODEN Bisacodyl 10mg Suppository is used for the short-term relief of occasional constipation by stimulating the natural process of bowel evacuation. It is a locally-acting stimulant that promotes the accumulation of water in the colon, which softens the stool and reduces transit time. The suppository form is particularly useful when fast relief is needed, as it typically acts within 15 to 60 minutes. This product is also used for bowel evacuation prior to diagnostic procedures or surgery, as well as in other conditions requiring facilitated defecation.

Side Effects

BISACODEN Bisacodyl 10mg Suppository common side effects include: abdominal cramps or pain, stomach discomfort, and the potential for diarrhea, especially with higher than recommended amounts. Some individuals may also experience rectal irritation, burning, or a sensation of faintness or dizziness. Excessive or prolonged use can lead to dehydration or an imbalance of water and salts in the body, such as low potassium levels, so usage beyond one week is not advised.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults and Kids (11+ years): 1 suppository (10 mg) daily.
• Dosage for Kids 10 years and under: Only use a 5 mg pediatric suppository daily.

Always start with the lowest amount needed for effect. Do not use more than 1 suppository in a 24-hour period. Not for use in children under 4 years of age unless a 5 mg pediatric suppository is used. The total duration of treatment should not exceed 7 days.

Contraindications

Do not use this product if you have an intestinal obstruction (ileus), acute abdominal conditions like appendicitis, acute inflammatory bowel diseases, or severe abdominal pain accompanied by nausea and vomiting. It is also not suitable for individuals with severe dehydration or a known sensitivity to the components of the suppository. Do not use the suppository if you have anal fissures or inflammation of the rectum.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Long experience indicates no evidence of undesirable or harmful effects during pregnancy; however, avoid use during the first three months. Frequent or excessive use is not recommended during the remainder of pregnancy. The product can be used while breast-feeding.

Special Precautions

• Prolonged and continuous use of laxatives is generally undesirable and may lead to dependence or an inability to have a regular bowel movement without assistance.
• Use with caution in individuals who have ulcerated hemorrhoids or anal fissures, as the suppository may cause irritation.
• The use of this product should be avoided if you have rectal bleeding or fail to have a bowel movement after administration, as these may be signs of a more serious underlying condition.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

No interactions with the suppository form have been widely noted. However, concurrent use of medications that increase the risk of dehydration, such as water pills, should be monitored. Other medications that slow the movement of the intestines may reduce the effectiveness of this product.

How should I store it?

Store at temperatures not exceeding 25°C. Keep it in its original packaging and protect it from moisture and heat.
