Indications / Uses

SOLMUX 500mg is used for treating respiratory conditions with thick or excessive mucus such as bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, sinusitis, and other pulmonary disorders. It helps loosen and clear phlegm from airways by reducing mucus viscosity and promoting expectoration. This facilitates easier breathing and accelerates recovery in acute and chronic bronchopulmonary diseases.

Side Effects

SOLMUX 500mg common side effects include: Gastrointestinal discomfort (nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea), headache, and dizziness. Less frequently, skin reactions like rash or itching may occur. Serious side effects such as gastrointestinal bleeding or severe allergic reactions are rare but require immediate medical attention if experienced.

Directions and Dosage

• Adults and adolescents (15+ years): 1 tablet (500mg) 3 times daily. Maximum daily dose: 3,000mg (6 tablets).
• Children 6–14 years: ½ tablet (250mg) 3 times daily. Maximum daily dose: 1,500mg (3 tablets).
• Children 2–5 years: ½ tablet (250mg) 4 times daily. Maximum daily dose: 1,000mg (2 tablets).

Not recommended for children under 2 years. Treatment duration typically ranges from 8–10 days unless otherwise directed.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to carbocisteine or excipients. Active peptic ulcer disease. Severe renal or hepatic impairment. Not for use in children under 2 years.

Special Precautions

• Use cautiously with history of gastric disorders.
• Monitor for gastrointestinal side effects.
• Dosage adjustment required in mild-to-moderate kidney or liver disease.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

May reduce efficacy of tetracycline antibiotics if taken simultaneously. Avoid concurrent use with antitussives (cough suppressants) as they counteract mucus clearance. Separate doses by 2 hours when using other oral medications.
