Indications / Uses

MUCOLEM Dextromethorphan 10mg is used for the temporary relief of a non-productive cough. This medication effectively suppresses the cough reflex by acting on the cough center in the brain. It is indicated for the treatment of dry coughs that accompany the common cold, minor throat irritation, or uncomplicated respiratory tract infections.

MUCOLEM Dextromethorphan 10mg contains: Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg.

Side Effects

MUCOLEM Dextromethorphan 10mg common side effects include: slight drowsiness, dizziness, and mild gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea or vomiting. Some individuals may also experience symptoms like nervousness or restlessness. These effects are generally mild and temporary. Serious but rare side effects that warrant immediate attention include severe anxiety, confusion, or hallucinations.

Directions and Dosage

• Adults (12+ years): 1 to 2 tablets (10-20 mg) every 4 hours OR 3 tablets (30 mg) every 6 to 8 hours. Do not exceed 12 tablets (120 mg) in 24 hours.
• Kids 6–12 years: ½ to 1 tablet (5-10 mg) every 4 hours OR 1.5 tablets (15 mg) every 6 to 8 hours. Do not exceed 6 tablets (60 mg) in 24 hours.

Not recommended for children under 6 years of age. Maximum treatment duration should not exceed 7 days.

Contraindications

Do not use if there is a known sensitivity to the components of this product. It is strictly contraindicated in individuals currently taking or who have recently taken (within the last 14 days) certain medications for depression or psychiatric disorders, including MAO inhibitors. Use is also advised against for patients experiencing an acute asthma attack or those with severe liver impairment.

Special Precautions

• Not suitable for managing chronic cough, such as that caused by smoking, asthma, or emphysema.
• Caution is needed when the cough is accompanied by excessive mucus or phlegm.
• Users should observe caution when operating machinery or driving due to potential slight dizziness or sedation.
• Avoid simultaneous use with other medicines that contain this same active antitussive component.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Combining this antitussive agent with alcohol, antihistamines, or other central nervous system depressants may increase sedative effects. Taking it with certain antidepressants, specifically MAO inhibitors or SSRIs, is extremely dangerous and can lead to a serious condition known as serotonin syndrome.

How should I store it?

Keep the product in a cool, dry place and ensure it is stored at room temperature. Protect the tablets from direct heat, light, and excessive moisture.
