BUTAMIR Butamirate Citrate 50mg is used for the symptomatic treatment of cough from various causes. This product is a non-opioid cough suppressant that works centrally to diminish the cough reflex, helping to provide relief from persistent and dry, non-productive cough. The sustained-release formulation offers a prolonged effect, which is beneficial for cough sedation both before and after surgical procedures. It is also suitable for soothing the cough associated with conditions like whooping cough.

Side Effects

BUTAMIR Butamirate Citrate 50mg common side effects include drowsiness or somnolence, which is the primary reason for caution when operating machinery or driving. Other infrequent effects are gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, diarrhea, and stomach pain. Hypersensitivity reactions may manifest as itchy skin rash or other allergic symptoms. Generally, these effects are rare and mild; if any unusual symptom persists, ceasing use is recommended.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults: 1 tablet (50 mg) 2 to 3 times daily, taken at 8 to 12 hour intervals. Do not exceed 3 tablets (150 mg) in 24 hours.
• Dosage for Adolescents over 12 years old: 1 tablet (50 mg) twice daily. Do not exceed 2 tablets (100 mg) in 24 hours.

Not recommended for children under 12 years of age in this tablet form. Maximum treatment duration is generally 7 days if symptoms do not improve.

Contraindications

This product is not to be used if there is a known allergy or hypersensitivity to the active component or any of the inactive ingredients. It is also not recommended for children under 3 years old.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

The use of this cough suppressant is not recommended during the first three months of pregnancy. Use in the latter months of pregnancy and while breastfeeding should be undertaken with careful consideration of the benefits.

Special Precautions

• The product can cause drowsiness; caution is required when performing tasks that demand full alertness, such as driving.
• Do not use with other cough medicines that promote the expulsion of mucus, as this combination may lead to the accumulation of bronchial secretions.
• It contains a sugar component (e.g., lactose in some formulations), so individuals with certain sugar intolerances should be mindful.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Avoid taking this product with other medications intended to promote the clearing of phlegm, as this combination can cause fluid buildup in the airways. There are limited reports on its direct interaction with other medications; however, informing about any concurrent use is important.

Keep the product stored at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Protect it from direct exposure to moisture and light for optimal stability.
