CTZ Cetirizine 10mg is used for symptomatic relief of allergic conditions including seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives, skin itching). It effectively manages allergic conjunctivitis and reduces skin manifestations of allergies such as rashes and pruritus.

Side Effects

Directions and Dosage

  • Children 2–5 years: 2.5mg–5mg daily (as syrup/oral drops). Maximum dose: 5mg/24 hours.

Not recommended for children under 2 years without medical supervision. For renal/hepatic impairment: Reduce dose to 5mg daily. Do not exceed recommended duration without evaluation.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to cetirizine, hydroxyzine, or piperazine derivatives. Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <10 mL/min). Avoid in hypokalemic hemodialysis patients.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Excreted in breast milk; avoid during lactation. Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed due to limited human safety data.

Special Precautions

  • Avoid alcohol or CNS depressants to prevent enhanced drowsiness.
  • Use cautiously in mild-moderate renal/hepatic impairment; dose reduction required.
  • Monitor for dizziness; may impair alertness for driving or machinery operation.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

May enhance sedation with alcohol, barbiturates, or opioids. No significant interactions with azithromycin, ketoconazole, or pseudoephedrine. Avoid concurrent use with other antihistamines.
