ALLERTA Loratadine 10mg is used for the comprehensive relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, commonly known as hay fever. These symptoms can include sneezing, a runny nose, nasal itchiness, and irritated, watery eyes. It is also effective in providing relief from chronic idiopathic urticaria, which is characterized by the persistent appearance of hives and skin rashes. This second-generation antihistamine works by blocking histamine receptors in the body to offer non-drowsy, 24-hour symptom control.

Side Effects

ALLERTA Loratadine 10mg common side effects include headache and somnolence (drowsiness), although it is classified as a non-sedating antihistamine. Other frequently reported effects may include nervousness, fatigue, and an increase in appetite, primarily observed in adults and children over 12 years of age. While generally well-tolerated, less common reactions can involve gastrointestinal discomfort, such as dry mouth or upset stomach. If any of these effects become severe or persistent, discontinuing use is advised.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults and Adolescents (12+ years): 1 tablet (10mg) once daily.
• Dosage for Kids 6–12 years (with a body weight greater than 30 kg): 1 tablet (10mg) once daily.
• Dosage for Kids 6–12 years (with a body weight of 30 kg or less): ½ tablet (5mg) once daily.

The maximum daily dosage is 10mg, and treatment should not be extended beyond 7 days unless symptoms are fully resolved or an alternative course of action is decided upon. This medication is not recommended for children under 2 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been fully established.

Contraindications

This medication should not be used by individuals who have a known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to the primary active ingredient or any of the inactive components found within the formulation. Use is generally not recommended for individuals with severe, existing hepatic (liver) impairment or significant renal (kidney) dysfunction.

Special Precautions

• Caution should be exercised if there is a history of severe liver problems, as dosage adjustments may be necessary.
• Those undergoing skin tests for allergies should stop taking this medication approximately two days before the procedure, as it may interfere with the test results.
• Use with care if there is any known history of significant kidney impairment.
