Indications / Uses

DM Mebendazole 500mg is used for treating intestinal worm infections including ascariasis (roundworm), trichuriasis (whipworm), and hookworm. It effectively eliminates both adult worms and developing larvae in the gastrointestinal tract. This medication is also indicated for single-dose mass treatment programs in endemic areas and helps reduce parasite transmission in communities.

Side Effects

DM Mebendazole 500mg common side effects include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and flatulence. Less frequently, it may cause dizziness, headache, or reversible liver enzyme elevations. Hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash, itching, and facial swelling occur rarely but require immediate discontinuation.

Directions and Dosage

• Adults and adolescents (12+ years): 1 tablet as a single dose. Repeat after 2-3 weeks if reinfection occurs.
• Children 1-12 years: ½ tablet as a single dose. Repeat after 2-3 weeks if needed.

Not recommended for children under 1 year. Maximum treatment duration: 3 consecutive days only for specific infections. Tablets may be chewed, swallowed whole, or crushed with food.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to benzimidazole derivatives
• First trimester of pregnancy
