Indications / Uses

DM MEBENDAZOLE 500mg is used for the treatment of various single or mixed intestinal parasitic worm infestations in the body. It is highly effective against common parasites such as roundworm, whipworm, hookworm, and pinworm infections (Enterobiasis). This medication works by preventing the worms from absorbing sugar (glucose), which is vital for their survival, thereby gradually killing them. The 500 mg strength is frequently utilized in single-dose regimens to simplify the eradication of common infestations.

Side Effects

DM MEBENDAZOLE 500mg common side effects include mild, transient gastrointestinal discomfort, such as abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea, particularly when there is a high parasitic burden. Less frequently, individuals may experience headache, dizziness, or signs of hypersensitivity reactions, like a skin rash. When used for prolonged periods or at very high doses, serious but rare hematological and liver effects can occur, although this is unusual with the standard single-dose regimen.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults and Kids 2 years and older (Common Worms): 500 mg as a single dose.
• For infections that return, treatment may need to be repeated after a few weeks.

The maximum treatment duration for routine deworming is a single dose, unless otherwise advised. Not recommended for children under 2 years of age.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used by individuals with a known allergic reaction or hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of its components. Use is not advised in combination with certain other anti-infective medications, specifically metronidazole, due to the risk of serious adverse skin reactions.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Treatment is generally avoided during the first trimester of gestation. The substance may be used later in pregnancy if the potential benefits are deemed necessary. Since it is unknown if the substance passes into breast milk, caution should be exercised when the individual is nursing.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Co-administration with certain anti-ulcer treatments can increase the amount of the active ingredient absorbed into the body. Conversely, certain seizure medications may reduce its effectiveness. The simultaneous use of another specific anti-infective medication is strongly restricted due to risk of serious skin reactions.

How should I store it?

Store the tablets at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep them protected from light and moisture, and ensure they remain securely out of reach of children.
