Indications / Uses

LOPERAMED Loperamide 2mg is used for the management and symptomatic relief of various forms of acute, non-specific diarrhea. It works by slowing down the movement of the gut, which allows the body to absorb more water and electrolytes. This action leads to a significant decrease in the number of bowel movements and helps to improve the consistency of the stools. It is also indicated for the control of chronic diarrhea associated with certain long-term conditions.

Side Effects

LOPERAMED Loperamide 2mg common side effects include: constipation, dizziness, nausea, and abdominal discomfort such as flatulence and cramps. Dry mouth and headaches are also frequently reported. Although uncommon at recommended dosages, severe effects can include significant abdominal bloating and symptoms related to reduced intestinal movement.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): Initial dosage is 4 mg, followed by 2 mg after each unformed bowel movement. Do not exceed a maximum daily dosage of 16 mg in 24 hours.
• Dosage for Kids 9–11 years: Initial and subsequent dosage is 2 mg, three times daily. Do not exceed a maximum daily dosage of 6 mg in 24 hours.
• Dosage for Kids 6–8 years: Initial and subsequent dosage is 2 mg, twice daily. Do not exceed a maximum daily dosage of 4 mg in 24 hours.

Not recommended for children under 6 years of age. Maximum treatment duration is generally 5 days for acute symptoms.

Contraindications

Avoid use if there is a known sensitivity to the active compound. The product should not be used when the stool contains blood, or if accompanied by high fever. It is also restricted in cases of acute ulcerative inflammation of the colon and for individuals experiencing certain types of bacterial-driven infections.

Special Precautions

• Use should be discontinued if acute symptoms do not improve within 48 hours of starting treatment.
• Caution is advised for individuals with impaired liver function due to reduced clearance of the compound.
• Fluid and electrolyte replacement remains important during management of the condition.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Concurrent use with other medications that slow down gut movement may lead to an increased risk of severe constipation. Certain compounds that slow the processing of this drug in the body may lead to higher-than-normal concentrations.

How should I store it?

Keep the product in a dry place at controlled room temperature, below 30°C. Protect the capsules from direct heat and excessive moisture.
