MEDIFORTAN PLUS Multivitamins / Zinc Capsule 1's
Indications/Uses
Multivitamins + Zinc (Medifortan Plus Capsule) is a vitamin-mineral supplement for cellular regeneration and rejuvenation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
One capsule daily or as prescribed by the physician.
Overdosage
Vitamin C: Prolonged excessive Vitamin C intake (more than 2 g per day) may lead to nausea, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nose bleeds, elevated serum glucose levels, gastrointestinal obstruction and esophagitis.
Vitamin E: Prolonged excessive daily intake of Vitamin E (greater than 1000 mg- equivalent to 1,490 IU) may be associated with increased bleeding tendency in Vitamin K-deficient patients. Signs and symptoms include dizziness, headache, vascular disorder, diarrhea and myopathy.
Zinc: Prolonged excessive dose of Zinc (toxic dose is greater than 200 mg daily) may have the following signs and symptoms: gastrointestinal cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, headache, lethargy, muscle pain and fever. Prolonged Zinc supplementation may interfere in the absorption of copper and iron, and it may also cause anemia.
If the patient has taken more than the recommended dosage, consult the doctor or contact a Poison Center right away.
Contraindications
If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding.
If the patient has hypervitaminosis.
Special Precautions
Vitamin C should be used with caution in patients with renal failure (risk of oxalate stones), erythrocyte glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency (risk of hemolytic anemia), hemochromatosis, sickle cell anemia and thalassemia.
High doses of Vitamin E (greater than 100 IU) should be used with caution in patients on warfarin.
Vitamin E should be used with extreme caution in those with any lesions that have the tendency to bleed, those with history of hemorrhagic stroke and those with inherited bleeding disorders.
Zinc should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease.
Do not take more than the recommended dose.
Missed Dose: If the patient misses the dose for the day, just give the next dose and the subsequent doses at the usual recommended schedule (i.e once a day). Do not double the dose unless recommended by a physician.
Consult doctor: If any undesirable effect occurs consult a doctor.
Consult a doctor before using this medicine if the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding.
Adverse Reactions
Drug Interactions
Vitamin C has been reported to decrease the anticoagulant effect of warfarin. Vitamin E reportedly may have anti-Vitamin K effects.
Concomitant intake of anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin) may also result in hemorrhage.
Zinc decreases the absorption of cephalosporins, quinolones and tetracyclines. Taking the antibiotic at least 2 hours before or 4 to 6 hours after taking zinc supplement minimizes the interaction.
Concomitant administration with zinc inhibits the absorption of copper and iron. Administer zinc and copper or iron as far apart as possible.
Concomitant intake with aspirin may lead to increased urinary excretion of ascorbic acid and decreased excretion of aspirin.
Prolonged statin treatment may increase Vitamin A levels.
Drug interactions with neomycin, aminosalicylic acid, colchicine, cimetidine, among others slow down the absorption of some vitamins.
Tell the doctor about the other medicines the patient is taking, including supplements, herbal products and other caffeine-containing products.
Storage
Keep container tightly closed.
Action
Zinc is an essential mineral for growth and development. It enhances immune functions, neurological functions, and cell reproduction.
Antioxidant Action Against Cellular Damage: Vitamin C and E are potent antioxidant vitamins that protect body tissues from damage caused by free radicals.
Zinc functions as a cofactor of the enzyme superoxide dismutase which is involved in the breakdown of potentially harmful oxygen molecules in cells and the removal of free radicals.
Energy and Metabolism Enhancer for Physical and Athletic Activities: Vitamin E plays important roles in enzymatic activities, gene expression, and neurological functions.
Zinc plays a number of catalytic, structural, and regulatory roles in cellular metabolism.
Cell Regeneration for Rejuvenation and Healthy Skin: Retinoic acid, a metabolite of Vitamin A, is a key hormone-like growth factor for epithelial cells and other types of cells in the body; for gene transcription and protein formation; promotes development of immune skin cells, reduces size and secretions of sebaceous glands thus preventing acne.
Vitamin C is important in the synthesis of collagen, carnitine (plays a critical role in energy production), neurotransmitters, proteoglycans and other organic constituents in the cellular matrix promoting tensile strength of epithelial and connective tissues, preserving bones, teeth, cartilages and capillary endothelia. Vitamin C's role in collagen synthesis makes it a vital molecule in the improvement of skin health. Vitamin C supports faster wound healing.
Zinc functions as a cofactor in various enzymes involved in cell division, growth and wound healing. Zinc also has anti-inflammatory effect which is especially beneficial for inflammatory acne. This is also an essential supplement for cell regeneration and rejuvenation.
Good Vision: Vitamin A is required for the maintenance of normal vision.
