Indications/Uses
Multivitamins (Ferlette) Capsule is indicated for stimulation of appetite, weight gain and prevention of hypovitaminosis. For all types of anorexia as seen in iron deficiency anemia, anorexia nervosa and malnutrition. Also, as a nutritional supplement in post-operative conditions, chronic illness, metabolic disorder, bedridden patients and convalescence.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adults: One capsule 2 times daily, or as prescribed by a physician.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the ingredients of the product.
Special Precautions
Buclizine hydrochloride may cause drowsiness and patients taking the drug should be cautioned against engaging in activities requiring mental alertness like driving automobile. It also has central nervous system depressant effect and may potentiate other CNS depressant compounds. Buclizine hydrochloride is contraindicated during early pregnancy and to patients who have shown previous hypersensitivity to it.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
Buclizine is contraindicated in women who are or may become pregnant since this drug is teratogenic.
Adverse Reactions
The most common adverse effect of Buclizine HCl is CNS depression, with effects varying from slight drowsiness to deep sleep, and including lassitude, dizziness and incoordination. Other adverse effects include headache, psychomotor impairment, and antimuscarinic effects, such as dry mouth, thickened respiratory tract secretions, blurred vision, urinary difficulty or retention, constipation and increased gastric reflux.
Drug Interactions
Buclizine HCl may enhance the sedative effects of CNS depressants including alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, opioid analgesic, anxiolytic sedatives and antipsychotics. It has an additive antimuscarinic action with other antimuscarinic drugs, such as atropine and some antidepressant (both tricyclics and MAOIs).
Iron salts are not well absorbed by mouth, and food may further impair their absorption. Compounds containing calcium and magnesium, including antacids and mineral supplements, and bicarbonates, carbonates, oxalates, or phosphates, may impair the absorption of iron by the formation of insoluble complexes. Zinc salts may also decrease the absorption of iron. The absorption of both iron salts and tetracyclines is diminished when taken together orally.

Action
Pharmacology: Pharmacodynamics: Multivitamins (Ferlette) Capsule exerts the synergistic actions of Buclizine, B-complex vitamins and iron in a nutritional supplement to stimulate appetite. Buclizine has metabolic effects that have been shown to stimulate appetite. The B-complex vitamins, particularly Vitamins B1, B6 and B12, are required in numerous metabolic processes involving protein, carbohydrate and fat that lead to energy production and utilization and to growth in children. Iron corrects hematologic abnormalities due to nutritional anemia. Correction of Iron deficiency anemia has been shown to improve appetite and work efficiency. Multivitamins (Ferlette) Capsule also contains the essential amino acid, Lysine, which is necessary for growth and development.
