Indications / Uses

FERLUM Ferrous Sulfate Oral Drops for Baby is used for the management and prevention of iron deficiency anemia, which is a condition caused by a lack of the mineral iron in the body. Iron is an essential component for the production of healthy red blood cells, enabling them to effectively transport oxygen throughout the entire body. Regular supplementation helps restore the body's iron stores and maintain normal hemoglobin levels, supporting normal growth and healthy development in infants and children.

Formulation / Ingredients

FERLUM Ferrous Sulfate Oral Drops for Baby contains: Ferrous Sulfate 75mg/0.6mL (equivalent to 15mg elemental iron/0.6mL)

Side Effects

FERLUM Ferrous Sulfate Oral Drops for Baby common side effects include: temporary gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea, occasional vomiting, stomach cramps, and changes in bowel movements like either constipation or diarrhea. These effects are often related to the amount taken and may lessen when taken with or after food. Stool darkening to a black or green color is a very common and expected, harmless effect due to unabsorbed iron. Temporary staining of the teeth may also occur with liquid preparations.

Directions and Dosage

  • Dosage for Prevention in Infants (Prophylaxis):
    • Infants 4 to <6 months: 0.5 mL daily.
    • Infants 6 to 12 months: 0.75 mL to 1 mL daily.
    • Do not exceed 1 mL (15 mg elemental iron) in 24 hours for prophylaxis.
  • Dosage for Treatment in Infants and Children (Therapeutic): The required amount is typically 3 mg of elemental iron per kg of body weight per day. The total daily amount should be divided and taken in 3 or 4 separate portions.

Maximum treatment duration: Oral iron therapy is often required for 4 to 6 months to fully reverse an uncomplicated deficiency and replenish the body's stores.
