Indications / Uses

SERETIDE Salmeterol / Fluticasone 25 / 125 Inhaler is used for the regular treatment of asthma in adults and adolescents when a combination of a long-acting bronchodilator and an inhaled corticosteroid is necessary for disease management. It is also indicated for the symptomatic management of moderate to severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) to improve breathing and reduce flare-ups. The dual action of the ingredients reduces inflammation and relaxes the muscles in the airways, promoting better airflow. However, this product is intended for maintenance therapy and should not be used for immediate relief of sudden, acute breathing difficulties.

Side Effects

SERETIDE Salmeterol / Fluticasone 25 / 125 Inhaler common side effects include thrush in the mouth or throat, which can be prevented by rinsing the mouth with water and spitting it out after use, and throat irritation or hoarseness. The bronchodilator component may cause temporary effects like tremor, a rapid heartbeat, or subjective palpitations. Other possible effects are headache, joint pain, muscle cramps, and an increased risk of lung infection (pneumonia) in individuals with chronic lung disease.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults and Adolescents (12 years and older) with Asthma: 2 inhalations twice daily (morning and evening).
• Dosage for Adults with COPD: 2 inhalations twice daily (morning and evening).

The doses should be taken at least 12 hours apart. Do not use more than 2 inhalations twice every 24 hours. Not recommended for children under 4 years of age.

Contraindications

The product should not be used if you have a known sensitivity to any of the components. It is not suitable for treating an acute episode or a rapidly worsening respiratory condition where immediate, intensive treatment is required.

Special Precautions

• This product is not for immediate relief of sudden breathing problems; a separate rescue inhaler is needed for that.
• Use with caution in individuals with pre-existing heart conditions, high blood pressure, diabetes, or an overactive thyroid gland.
• Prolonged use of the corticosteroid component may rarely lead to systemic side effects like reduced bone density, cataracts, or glaucoma.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Combining this product with other sympathomimetic agents (other bronchodilators) should be avoided due to the risk of additive heart effects. Certain medications used for fungal infections or HIV can significantly increase the systemic exposure of the corticosteroid component, raising the chance of side effects.

How should I store it?

Store the pressurized canister at a temperature below 30°C. Protect it from frost, direct sunlight, and heat. Do not puncture or burn the canister, even when empty.
