Indications / Uses
KOVENT SF Salmeterol / Fluticasone 25 / 250 Inhaler is used for the regular maintenance treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This combination is appropriate for individuals whose condition is not sufficiently managed by a standard inhaled corticosteroid alone, or for those already adequately controlled on both a long-acting beta-agonist and an inhaled corticosteroid. It works to reduce airway inflammation and keep the breathing tubes open, leading to improved airflow. This preparation is strictly for maintenance therapy and must not be used for sudden, acute breathing attacks.
Formulation / Ingredients

Side Effects
KOVENT SF Salmeterol / Fluticasone 25 / 250 Inhaler common side effects include: upper respiratory infections, hoarseness, headache, cough, and irritation of the throat. A fungal infection in the mouth or throat, known as oral candidiasis, is also a frequent occurrence, which can often be mitigated by rinsing the mouth after use. More serious, yet less common, effects can involve an irregular heartbeat, tremors, increased blood pressure, or a sudden, unexpected worsening of breathing immediately after inhalation. Long-term use may also carry a risk of effects on bone density and eye health.
Directions and Dosage
- Dosage for Adults and Adolescents (12+ years): 2 inhalations twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.
- Maximum Daily Dosage (Adults/Adolescents): Do not exceed a total of 4 inhalations in 24 hours. The doses should be taken approximately 12 hours apart.
Use of this specific strength is not generally recommended for children under 12 years of age. The safety and effectiveness have not been established in children under 4 years of age.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to any of the components contained within the preparation, including any potential milk protein residue. This maintenance preparation must never be used to treat an acute asthma attack or any sudden, severe episode of breathing difficulty.
Special Precautions
- Rinse the mouth immediately after each use to minimize the risk of developing a fungal infection in the mouth or throat.
- Increased monitoring is recommended for individuals with underlying heart problems, including irregular heart rhythms or high blood pressure.
- Use with caution in patients who have high blood sugar or diabetes, as the preparation may affect glucose levels.
- Long-term use may reduce bone strength or increase eye pressure; regular check-ups are advised to monitor for these effects.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Concomitant use with other long-acting agents of the same class is generally not recommended due to the potential for excessive sympathetic stimulation. Certain types of blood pressure medications or powerful inhibitors of certain liver enzymes can alter the concentration of the components, making them less effective or increasing the risk of systemic effects.
How should I store it?
Store the container at a comfortable room temperature, shielded from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Keep the preparation away from any freezing temperatures and safely out of reach.
