Side Effects
HIVENT EM Salbutamol 1mg / mL common side effects include: fine tremors of skeletal muscle, particularly in the hands, palpitations, and muscle cramps. Some patients may experience a slight increase in heart rate, headaches, or a feeling of tension. Though rare, more serious effects like hypokalemia (low potassium levels) or paradoxical bronchospasm may occur, where breathing difficulties worsen immediately after use.
Directions and Dosage
- Adults (18+ years): 2.5 mg to 5 mg (1 to 2 nebules) inhaled via nebulizer every 4 to 6 hours as needed.
- Adolescents 12–18 years: 2.5 mg to 5 mg (1 to 2 nebules) inhaled via nebulizer every 4 to 6 hours.
- Kids 2–12 years: 2.5 mg (1 nebule) inhaled via nebulizer every 4 to 6 hours.
- Infants and Kids under 2 years: 1.25 mg (0.5 nebule) or based on weight (0.1-0.15 mg/kg) up to 3 times daily.
Maximum daily dosage should not exceed 20 mg. Treatment duration depends on the severity of the obstruction. Not for injection or oral use.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any component of the solution. It should not be used to manage threatened abortion or premature labor.
Special Precautions
- Caution is required for patients with hyperthyroidism, cardiovascular disorders, or hypertension.
- Monitor potassium levels closely as the risk of hypokalemia is increased in acute severe asthma.
- Continuous use may lead to a decrease in effectiveness; do not increase dose without professional advice.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Propanolol and other non-selective beta-blockers may inhibit its effects. Use with caution alongside diuretics or xanthines as they may increase the risk of low blood potassium levels.
How should I store it?
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C and protect from light. Once a nebule is opened, it must be used immediately; discard any remaining solution.
