Indications / Uses

GOCETYL Acetylcysteine 200mg is used for reducing mucus viscosity in respiratory conditions like bronchitis, COPD, and cystic fibrosis. It facilitates mucus clearance in acute and chronic bronchopulmonary diseases associated with abnormal mucus production. This mucolytic agent also helps manage productive cough and airway congestion in respiratory tract infections.

Side Effects

GOCETYL Acetylcysteine 200mg common side effects include: gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, and heartburn. Rare reactions may involve hypersensitivity manifestations like rash, angioedema, or bronchospasm in asthmatic patients.

Directions and Dosage

• Adults and adolescents (≥14 years): 1 sachet (200mg) 2–3 times daily. Maximum daily dose: 600mg.
• Children 7–13 years: 1 sachet (200mg) 2 times daily. Maximum daily dose: 400mg.
• Children 2–6 years: ½ sachet (100mg) 2–3 times daily. Maximum daily dose: 300mg.

Not recommended for children under 2 years. Dissolve in water before consumption. Maximum treatment duration: 5–10 days unless medically advised.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to acetylcysteine. Active peptic ulceration. History of bronchospasm with mucolytic use.

Special Precautions

• Monitor for bronchospasm in asthmatic patients
• Use cautiously in gastric ulcer history
• Maintain adequate hydration during treatment

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

May reduce antibiotic effectiveness if taken simultaneously. Avoid combination with cough suppressants. Potential interaction with nitroglycerin causing hypotension.
