Side Effects

EXFLEM Acetylcysteine 200mg common side effects include: gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Less frequently, it may cause stomatitis, drowsiness, fever, and allergic reactions like skin rash or itching. Rare cases of bronchospasm have been reported, particularly in asthmatic patients.

Directions and Dosage

  • Adults & Adolescents (14+ years): 1 sachet (200mg) 2-3 times daily. Maximum: 3 sachets in 24 hours.
  • Children (6-13 years): 1 sachet (200mg) twice daily. Maximum: 2 sachets in 24 hours.
  • Children (2-5 years): 1 sachet (200mg) once daily. Maximum: 1 sachet in 24 hours.

Not recommended for children under 2 years. Maximum treatment duration: 5-7 days unless otherwise advised.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to acetylcysteine. Not for use in patients with active peptic ulcer disease or severe hepatic impairment.

Special Precautions

  • Use with caution in patients with bronchial asthma due to risk of bronchospasm
  • May cause gastrointestinal irritation; administer after meals if needed
  • Monitor for signs of allergic reactions during initial use

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

May reduce effectiveness of certain antibiotics (e.g., tetracyclines). Separate administration by at least 2 hours. Avoid concurrent use with antitussives that suppress cough reflex.
