Indications / Uses

AROFLO-250 Salmeterol / Fluticasone 25 / 250 Inhaler is used for the regular treatment of asthma in adults and adolescents where a combination therapy of a long-acting bronchodilator and an inhaled corticosteroid is considered appropriate for effective symptom control. This higher strength is also indicated for the symptomatic treatment of adult patients with moderate to severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) who continue to experience significant symptoms despite standard bronchodilator therapy. The medicine works by relaxing the airway muscles and reducing inflammation in the lungs to help improve breathing. It is essential to remember that this product is for maintenance treatment and must not be used to treat a sudden, acute attack of breathlessness.

Side Effects

AROFLO-250 Salmeterol / Fluticasone 25 / 250 Inhaler common side effects include oral candidiasis (thrush) and hoarseness; rinsing the mouth with water after use may help prevent these. The long-acting bronchodilator component can cause headache, muscle pain, and the pharmacological effects associated with this class of products, such as tremor or subjective palpitations, which tend to be transient. For individuals with chronic lung disease, there may be an increased risk of developing lung infection (pneumonia) while on this treatment.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults and Adolescents (12 years and older) with Asthma: 2 inhalations twice daily (morning and evening).
• Dosage for Adults with COPD: 2 inhalations twice daily (morning and evening).

The doses should be taken at least 12 hours apart. The maximum daily dose for both conditions is 2 inhalations twice daily. Not recommended for children under 4 years of age due to lack of adequate safety and efficacy data.

Contraindications

Do not use this product if you have a known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. It is not suitable for initial therapy during a life-threatening or rapidly deteriorating breathing episode that requires immediate, intense medical attention.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

This product should be avoided during pregnancy and while breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary.

Special Precautions

• This medication is for regular maintenance and should not be used as a rescue inhaler for acute symptoms; a fast-acting inhaler is required for sudden problems.
• Use with caution in individuals with heart disorders, high blood pressure, or conditions like diabetes or an overactive thyroid gland.
• The prolonged use of the corticosteroid may potentially lead to systemic effects, including a decrease in bone mineral density, cataracts, and glaucoma.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Co-administration with similar long-acting bronchodilators is generally not advised due to the risk of excessive heart stimulation. Strong inhibitors of certain liver enzymes, such as some antifungal and anti-HIV medications, can significantly increase the concentration of the corticosteroid component in the bloodstream, leading to potential systemic effects.

How should I store it?

The canister should be stored below 30°C and must be protected from frost and direct sunlight. The container is pressurized, so do not pierce or attempt to burn it, even after use.
