Indications/Uses
Treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia to relieve symptoms of urinary obstruction.
Dosage/Direction for Use
400 mcg once daily. May be increased to 800 mcg once daily after 2-4 wk.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take 30 min after the same meal each day. Swallow whole, do not open/chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to tamsulosin or other 5α-reductase inhibitors. History of postural hypotension, severe liver impairment & syncope. Concomitant use w/ other α1-adrenoceptor.
Special Precautions
May cause permanent impotence. Reduction in BP may result to syncope. Hepatic impairment. Avoid abrupt discontinuation. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Abnormal ejaculation, back & chest pain, cough, drowsiness, hypotension, syncope, asthenia, depression, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, headache, infection, nausea, vomiting, tooth disorder, decreased libido, insomnia, somnolence, rhinitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, asthenia, blurred vision, dry mouth, GI disturbances, edema, erectile disorders (including priapism), tachycardia & palpitations. Hypersensitivity reactions eg, rash, pruritus & angioedema. Swelling of face, tongue or throat; decreased BP.
Drug Interactions
Strong & moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors.
