Indications
Hyperuricaemia; Chemotherapy induced hyperuricaemia
Dosage and Administration
Adult Initial: 40mg once daily, may increase to 80mg once daily in patients who do not achieve a serum uric acid level <6 mg/dL after 2 weeks.
The dose may be increased up to 120mg once daily if clinically indicated, or as prescribed by the physician.
Administer with or without meals, may be taken without regard to antacid use.
Storage
Store between 15-30°C. Protect from light.
Contraindications
Concomitant use with azathioprine, mercaptopurine. Patient with a history of hypersensitivity reaction to allopurinol; major CV disease (e.g. MI, stroke, unstable angina), ischaemic heart disease or CHF; thyroid disorders.
Common side-effects
MI; Stroke; Gout flares; Increased serum AST/ALT; Increased TSH; CV death; Hepatic failure.
Precaution
This drug may cause dizziness, somnolence, paraesthesia and blurred vision; do not drive or operate machinery, if affected.
