Indications / Uses of ALLUPREX Allopurinol 300mg Tablet

Allopurinol helps lower uric acid levels in the blood and urine by slowing certain chemical reactions in the body. It is used to prevent the formation of urate deposits in conditions such as gout, kidney stones, and during cancer treatment. In gout, excess uric acid forms crystals in the joints and tendons, leading to inflammation, swelling, tenderness, and severe pain in the affected areas.

What are the side-effects of ALLUPREX Allopurinol 300mg Tablet?

Like all medications, allopurinol can cause side effects, though not everyone experiences them.

Serious Side Effects: If you notice any of the following, stop taking the tablets and seek immediate medical help:

Hypersensitivity

Uncommon: Allergic reactions may include flaking skin, boils, sore lips or mouth, and in rare cases, sudden wheezing, chest tightness, or collapse.

Rare Reactions: Fever, chills, flu-like symptoms, serious hypersensitivity reactions (fever, skin rash, joint pain, and abnormal blood/liver tests), bleeding in lips, eyes, mouth, nose, or genitals, and skin changes like mouth/throat ulcers or widespread blisters.

Very Rare Reactions: Serious allergic reactions causing swelling of the face or throat, which can be life-threatening.

If any serious reactions occur, do not take more tablets without consulting your doctor.

Dosage / Direction for Use of ALLUPREX Allopurinol 300mg Tablet

Recommended Dosage:

Adults (over 18 years)

Typically, the dose ranges from 100 to 900 mg per day.

Children (under 15 years)

Usually, the dose ranges from 100 to 400 mg per day.

Elderly (over 65 years)

The doctor will prescribe the lowest effective dose to control symptoms.

Patients with serious kidney problems

May require less than 100 mg daily or 100 mg at longer intervals.

Patients on dialysis (2-3 times a week)

A dose of 300 to 400 mg may be prescribed to be taken immediately after dialysis.

How to Take:

Swallow the tablet with a drink of water.
Take the tablets just after a meal.

Contraindications

Do not take Allopurinol if you:

Special Care with Allopurinol:

Serious skin rashes (such as hypersensitivity syndrome, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, or toxic epidermal necrolysis) have been reported. These may start with flu-like symptoms (fever, headache, body aches) and can involve ulcers in the mouth, throat, nose, and genitals, as well as conjunctivitis. The rash may progress to blistering and peeling skin, particularly in individuals of Han Chinese, Thai, or Korean origin, or those with chronic kidney disease. If you develop a rash or related symptoms, stop taking allopurinol and contact your doctor immediately.
If you have cancer or Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, your uric acid levels may increase in your urine. It’s important to drink plenty of fluids to dilute your urine.
If you have kidney stones, they may shrink and potentially enter your urinary tract.

Children

Allopurinol is rarely indicated for children, except in specific cases such as certain types of cancer (especially leukemia) and certain enzyme disorders like Lesch-Nyhan syndrome.

Pregnancy and Breast-Feeding:

Consult your doctor before taking Allopurinol if you are pregnant, might become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Allopurinol is excreted in breast milk and is not recommended during breastfeeding.

Driving and using machines

Allopurinol may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or coordination issues. If you experience these effects, do not drive or operate tools or machinery.

Hypersensitivity

Dosage / Direksyon sa Paggamit ng ALLUPREX Allopurinol 300mg Tablet

Inirerekomendang Dosis:

Mga Matanda (mahigit 18 taon)

Karaniwang dosis mula 100 hanggang 900 mg bawat araw.

Mga Bata (wala pang 15 taon)

Karaniwang dosis mula 100 hanggang 400 mg bawat araw.

Mga Nakatanda (mahigit 65 taon)

Kontraindikasyon

Ay may lahing Han Chinese, African, o Indian.

May problema sa puso o mataas na presyon ng dugo, lalo na kung ikaw ay umiinom ng diuretics o ACE inhibitors.
Kasalukuyang nakakaranas ng atake ng gout.
May problema sa thyroid.

Espesyal na Pangangalaga sa Allopurinol:

Ang mga seryosong pantal sa balat (tulad ng hypersensitivity syndrome, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, o toxic epidermal necrolysis) ay naitala.
