AndroGel Testosterone common side effects include:

  • Skin irritation: Redness, itching, or burning at the application site.
  • Acne: Increased oil production and breakouts.
  • Changes in mood: Irritability, aggression, mood swings, or depression.

It's important to remember that this is not an exhaustive list, and individual experiences may vary. If you experience any concerning side effects, consult your doctor immediately.

Dosage / Direction

AndroGel Testosterone is typically applied once daily to clean, dry skin on the shoulders or upper arms. The specific dosage will be determined by your doctor based on your individual needs and response to treatment.

Application: Apply a thin, even layer of gel to the chosen area.
Rub in gently: Massage the gel into the skin until it is completely absorbed.
Wash hands thoroughly: After application, wash your hands with soap and water to remove any residual gel.

Important Notes:

Avoid contact: Avoid contact with others, especially women and children, until the gel has completely dried.
Cover the application site: If you need to cover the application site, use loose-fitting clothing.
Regular monitoring: Your doctor will monitor your testosterone levels and adjust your dosage as needed.

Contraindications

AndroGel is contraindicated in:

  • Prostate cancer
  • Breast cancer
  • Severe heart, liver, or kidney disease
  • Known or suspected pregnancy in women
  • Hypersensitivity to testosterone or any component of the gel

This is brief overview and not exhaustive. Always consult your doctor for a complete list of contraindications.

Special Precautions

Pregnancy: AndroGel is strictly contraindicated in women who are or may become pregnant. Testosterone can harm a developing fetus. If a woman comes into contact with the gel, she should wash the area thoroughly with soap and water immediately.

Children: Keep AndroGel out of reach of children. Accidental exposure can cause masculinization in girls, such as deepening of the voice, clitoral enlargement, and abnormal hair growth.

Skin-to-skin contact:

  • Avoid close skin-to-skin contact with others, especially women and children, until the gel has completely dried and the application site is covered with clothing.
  • Wash the application site before any situation where close contact is likely.

Heat: Avoid excessive heat, such as saunas or hot tubs, as this can increase testosterone absorption and potentially increase the risk of side effects.

Driving and operating machinery: AndroGel may cause drowsiness or dizziness in some individuals. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how AndroGel affects you.

Surgery: Inform your doctor about AndroGel use before any surgery, including dental procedures, as it may affect anesthesia and blood clotting.

Regular monitoring: Regular medical checkups are essential to monitor your progress, adjust your dosage as needed, and check for potential side effects.

Is it safe to take it with other drugs?

AndroGel Testosterone can interact with other medications, potentially affecting their effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Some important drug interactions to be aware of include:

  • Anticoagulants (blood thinners): Testosterone can increase the effects of anticoagulants, such as warfarin, increasing the risk of bleeding.
  • Insulin and oral hypoglycemic agents: Testosterone may decrease the effectiveness of these medications used to control blood sugar levels in people with diabetes.
  • Corticosteroids: The combination of testosterone and corticosteroids can increase the risk of fluid retention and heart problems.
  • Certain antifungal medications: Some antifungal medications, such as ketoconazole and itraconazole, can increase blood levels of testosterone when used together with AndroGel.
