Indications / Uses

ZAXID Pantoprazole 40mg is used for the treatment and management of conditions where reducing stomach acid production is beneficial. This includes the short-term healing of erosive esophagitis, which is the damage to the esophagus caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is also used for the long-term management of pathological hypersecretory conditions, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. The active component works to decrease the amount of acid the stomach produces, thus helping to relieve symptoms like heartburn and allowing damaged tissue to heal.

Side Effects

ZAXID Pantoprazole 40mg common side effects include: gastrointestinal issues such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and flatulence. Other frequently reported effects involve the central nervous system, including headache and dizziness. Long-term use may pose additional risks, such as a potential increase in the likelihood of bone fractures in the hip, wrist, or spine, particularly with high daily doses or extended treatment over a year. Additionally, prolonged therapy may lead to reduced levels of magnesium and Vitamin B12 absorption in the body.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): 40 mg once daily for up to 8 weeks for treatment of acid reflux damage.
• Dosage for Adults (Hypersecretory conditions): 40 mg twice daily. Daily intake may be adjusted up to 240 mg if necessary.
• Dosage for Kids 5+ years (40 kg or more): 40 mg once a day for up to 8 weeks.
• Dosage for Kids 5+ years (15–39 kg): 20 mg once a day for up to 8 weeks.

Not recommended for children younger than 5 years of age. The maximum recommended daily dosage is typically 40 mg for common acid reflux treatment, with higher doses reserved for specialized conditions.

Contraindications

The product should not be used by individuals with a known severe sensitivity or allergy to the compound or any related compounds. Use in combination with specific antiviral agents for HIV, such as atazanavir or rilpivirine, is generally not permitted.

Special Precautions

• Symptomatic improvement does not eliminate the possibility of underlying serious stomach conditions.
• Extended use, especially over one year or at high daily dosages, may be associated with an increased risk of bone fractures and hypomagnesemia.
• Long-term therapy can potentially reduce the body’s absorption of an important nutrient, which should be considered in older patients.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

The medicine may interfere with the absorption of other medications that require a certain stomach acidity level to be effective, such as some antifungal products. Users taking blood-thinning agents may require increased monitoring as changes in blood clotting time are possible with concomitant use.

Store this product away from heat and moisture. The tablets should be kept at or below 25°C.
