Indications / Uses

RANZOLE Omeprazole 40mg is used for the short-term and maintenance management of various acid-related conditions. This includes the healing of duodenal and benign gastric ulcers, as well as the treatment of reflux diseases like Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and severe erosive esophagitis. It is also an important component of combination regimens for the eradication of H.pylori infection associated with peptic ulcer disease and for managing pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.

Side Effects

RANZOLE Omeprazole 40mg common side effects include gastrointestinal issues such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and increased flatulence. Other frequently reported effects are headaches and dizziness. Less common adverse effects may involve rash, changes in sleep patterns, or temporary back pain. If this medicine is used long-term, it may rarely be associated with decreased absorption of essential vitamins or minerals.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years) for Gastric Ulcer: 40 mg once daily.
• Dosage for Adults (18+ years) for Refractory Esophagitis: 40 mg once daily.
• Dosage for Adults (18+ years) for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Initial dosage is 60 mg once daily. The dose and duration of treatment are adjusted as needed. Total daily doses above 80 mg should be administered in 2 divided doses.
• Dosage for Kids over 20 kg: 20 mg once daily.
• Dosage for Kids 10 - 20 kg: 10 mg once daily.
• Dosage for Kids 5 - 10 kg: 5 mg once daily.
• Dosage for Infants 1 month to < 1 year (3 to < 5 kg): 2.5 mg once daily.

Maximum treatment duration for healing duodenal ulcers is 4 to 8 weeks, and up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers or erosive esophagitis. The duration of therapy for hypersecretory conditions is highly individualized.

Contraindications

Use is not recommended for individuals with a known severe sensitivity to this type of medicine (proton pump inhibitors). It should also be used with caution in those with severe liver impairment, a history of weakened bones, or specific severe intestinal infections.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Information indicates no known contra-indication for use during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Special Precautions

• Prolonged use, particularly beyond one year, may increase the risk of fractures of the hip, wrist, or spine.
• Long-term therapy may be associated with reduced body magnesium levels, which can lead to serious adverse effects like tremors or irregular heart rhythms.
• Extended use may lead to the formation of benign growths (fundic gland polyps) in the stomach lining.
• May potentially mask symptoms of serious underlying conditions.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Use with certain antiretroviral medicines like atazanavir and rilpivirine is not advised as it can significantly reduce their effectiveness. It may also alter the breakdown of other compounds, potentially affecting the concentration of certain anti-clotting agents like clopidogrel in the body.

How should I store it?

Keep the capsules in a cool, dry place. Store at temperatures not exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. Protect the product from both light and moisture to maintain the integrity of the medicine.
