Indications / Uses
AMBICA Esomeprazole 40mg is used for the treatment of various stomach and esophageal issues caused by excessive stomach acid. It is primarily used for the short-term healing of damage to the esophagus (erosive esophagitis) and the management of acid reflux disease, which causes symptoms like heartburn. This product is also prescribed in combination with antibacterial regimens for the eradication of H. pylori bacteria, which causes duodenal ulcers, and for the long-term management of conditions that cause pathological hypersecretion, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Side Effects
AMBICA Esomeprazole 40mg common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances like stomach pain, flatulence, constipation, nausea, and diarrhea, as well as headache. More serious effects can occur with long-term use, such as the development of low magnesium levels in the blood and an increased risk of bone fractures in the hip, wrist, or spine. Additionally, prolonged treatment may lead to reduced absorption of Vitamin B12, and in rare cases, severe skin reactions or systemic allergic responses may occur.
Directions and Dosage
- Dosage for Adults (18+ years) with Erosive Esophagitis: 20 mg or 40 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. For long-term prevention of relapse, a lower dose of 20 mg once daily may be used.

Not recommended for children under 1 year for GERD symptoms, or children under 1 month for Erosive Esophagitis.
Contraindications
The use of this product is strictly not allowed in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to the active substance, to any components of the formulation, or to other products in the same class. Concomitant use with certain antiretroviral compounds is also prohibited due to the potential for significant drug interactions.

Special Precautions
- In the presence of any concerning symptom, such as vomiting blood or significant unexpected weight loss, the possibility of a serious underlying condition must be excluded before starting therapy.
- Prolonged use, particularly for more than one year, may lead to reduced absorption of Vitamin B12, requiring regular monitoring and possible supplementation.
- Long-term or high-dose therapy is associated with an increased risk of bone fractures, especially in those with other risk factors for reduced bone density.
- Extended use may cause very low blood magnesium levels, which can lead to serious adverse effects like seizures or irregular heartbeat.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Use with certain other medications, including specific antiretrovirals, is not recommended. The acid-reducing effect can alter the absorption and effectiveness of compounds whose bioavailability depends on stomach pH, such as some antifungals. It may also increase the blood levels of some compounds, like diazepam and phenytoin.
