Indications / Uses

Timolol Eye Drops is used for reducing elevated intraocular pressure in patients with chronic open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It works by decreasing aqueous humor production, helping to prevent optic nerve damage and vision loss. It may be used alone or in combination with other medications to achieve target intraocular pressure levels.

Formulation

Timolol Eye Drops contains: Timolol Maleate 0.5% w/v.

Side-effects

Timolol Eye Drops common side effects include: eye irritation, burning or stinging sensation, blurred vision, dry eyes, and redness. Less common but serious side effects may include bradycardia, dizziness, fatigue, hypotension, and bronchospasm in sensitive individuals.

Dosage / Direction

Dosage for Adults: Instill 1 drop of 0.25% solution into the affected eye(s) twice daily. If necessary, increase to 1 drop of 0.5% solution twice daily. Once intraocular pressure is controlled, reduce to 1 drop once daily. Maximum daily dosage: 2 drops per eye.

Dosage for Children: Use in children is not generally recommended. If prescribed, dosage must be determined based on individual assessment.

Age Limit: Use in pediatric patients should be under strict medical supervision due to limited safety data.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Limited systemic absorption reduces risk during pregnancy, but caution is advised. Small amounts may pass into breast milk; use with caution while breastfeeding.

Special Precautions

Use with caution in patients with heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or myasthenia gravis. May mask symptoms of hypoglycemia and hyperthyroidism. Beta-blockers may reduce effectiveness of epinephrine in anaphylactic reactions.

Is it safe to take it with other drugs?
