Indications / Uses

VESTFLO-20 Rosuvastatin 20mg is used for the management of hyperlipidaemias, which encompasses primary hypercholesterolemia (high levels of "bad" cholesterol) and mixed dyslipidaemia (elevated cholesterol and triglycerides). It works as an effective adjunct to dietary changes and physical activity when non-pharmacological methods alone are not sufficient to achieve target lipid levels. This product helps to lower total cholesterol, LDL-C, and triglycerides, while also increasing HDL-C. Furthermore, it is prescribed to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks and strokes, in adult patients considered to be at high risk.

Side Effects

VESTFLO-20 Rosuvastatin 20mg common side effects include: gastrointestinal disturbances such as stomach pain, nausea, and constipation, as well as headache and dizziness. Adverse effects are generally mild and temporary. Other reported effects can include skin rashes, sleep difficulty (insomnia), and unusual tiredness or general weakness. It is important to be aware of the potential for muscle-related problems, such as unexplained muscle aches, tenderness, or weakness, which may be a sign of a more serious condition like myopathy.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): The typical starting dose is 5 mg or 10 mg once daily. For individuals with very high cholesterol or aggressive targets, the starting dose may be 20 mg once daily. The maximum daily dosage is 40 mg. Doses should only be adjusted at intervals of 4 weeks or more.
• Dosage for Adolescents and Children (10 - 17 years) with Heterozygous Familial High Cholesterol: 5 mg to 20 mg per day.
• Dosage for Children (7 - 17 years) with Homozygous Familial High Cholesterol: 20 mg once daily.

Not recommended for children under 6 years of age. Maximum daily dose for the pediatric population is 20 mg. Treatment is generally long-term, and continuous use is necessary to maintain benefits.

Contraindications

This product should not be used by individuals with a known sensitivity to any of its components. It is also prohibited for those with active liver disease or unexplained, persistent elevations of serum liver enzymes. Avoid use if there is severe kidney dysfunction or a history of recurrent, unexplained muscle aches and pains. Concomitant use with certain viral infection treatments is also a contraindication.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Use of this product is contraindicated during pregnancy. It should also be avoided by those who are breastfeeding.

Special Precautions

• Use with caution if there is a history of liver problems or consumption of substantial quantities of alcohol.
• Caution is advised for individuals with existing conditions that increase the risk of muscle disease, such as advanced age, kidney issues, or inadequately managed thyroid problems.
• Therapy should be stopped temporarily during any acute, severe medical condition that suggests a possible risk of muscle damage, like major surgery, trauma, or a severe infection.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

The product has minimal potential for drug-drug interactions due to its limited metabolism by the body's enzyme systems. However, combining it with certain other lipid-lowering therapies or specific antiviral medications may heighten the risk of adverse effects on the muscles. If it is necessary to take an antacid containing aluminum or magnesium, it must be administered at least two hours after taking this product.

How should I store it?

Keep the tablets in their original blister packaging, safely away from moisture and excessive heat. Store the product at room temperature, ideally between 20°C to 25°C, and protect it from direct light and freezing.
