SIMVASYN Simvastatin 20mg is used for the reduction of abnormally high levels of cholesterol and other harmful fats, such as triglycerides and LDL cholesterol, in the blood. This reduction is achieved by inhibiting a key enzyme in the liver responsible for producing cholesterol. The regimen is indicated for individuals with primary or mixed hypercholesterolemia, including those with genetic high cholesterol conditions. Furthermore, it is prescribed to decrease the substantial risk of major cardiovascular events like heart attack and stroke in high-risk individuals.

SIMVASYN Simvastatin 20mg common side effects include: mild disturbances in the digestive system such as stomach pain, constipation, flatulence, and general head discomfort. The most critical adverse effect involves muscle problems, presenting as unexplained pain, tenderness, or weakness; these signs require immediate attention. Regular testing may also detect elevations in liver enzymes, which signifies irritation to the liver and may necessitate discontinuation of the regimen.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years - Initial Dose): The typical starting dose is 10 mg to 20 mg, taken once daily.
• Dosage for Adults (Maintenance Dose): The daily dosage may be adjusted from 5 mg up to a maximum of 40 mg, taken once per day.
• Dosage for Kids (10–17 years - Familial Conditions): Initial dose is 10 mg once daily; maximum is 40 mg daily.

The maximum daily dosage is 40 mg. Therapy for managing cholesterol levels is usually a long-term commitment and is not recommended for children under 10 years of age.

Contraindications

This medication is strictly unsuitable for anyone with active disease affecting the liver or unexplained, ongoing elevations in liver enzyme levels. It is also forbidden for women who are pregnant or nursing. Use is prohibited when taking certain potent antifungal agents, macrolide antibacterial agents, or specific medicines for HIV.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

The compound is contraindicated during pregnancy because it can cause harm to the developing fetus, as cholesterol and its byproducts are essential for fetal growth. Since the compound is excreted in mother's milk, its use is also prohibited while breastfeeding.
