It works by reducing the production of "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides in the liver, while simultaneously increasing the level of "good" cholesterol (HDL). This action is key for lowering the overall risk of serious cardiovascular events, including heart attack and stroke, in individuals with risk factors or established coronary heart disease. It is an important part of a total heart-healthy program that includes diet modification and exercise.

Side Effects

SIMVASYN Simvastatin 10mg common side effects include: headache, mild gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea, constipation, and stomach pain, as well as joint pain. A more serious, though less frequent, adverse effect involves muscle problems, ranging from mild pain and weakness to a severe condition known as rhabdomyolysis, which can lead to kidney issues. Additionally, changes in liver enzyme levels may occur, necessitating periodic monitoring.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): Initial dose is usually 20 mg once daily. The standard maintenance range is 20 mg to 40 mg once daily in the evening. Do not exceed 40 mg in 24 hours for new patients.
• Dosage for Adolescents and Kids (10–17 years): The usual starting dosage is 10 mg once daily in the evening. The daily maximum dose should not exceed 40 mg.

This product is not generally recommended for children under 10 years of age. Treatment duration is typically long-term to maintain cholesterol control.

Contraindications

Use is prohibited in individuals who have active liver disease or persistently elevated liver enzyme levels of unknown cause. It is also contraindicated for those with a known allergy to similar compounds and during pregnancy and lactation. Co-administration with certain medications that strongly inhibit a specific metabolic enzyme is also not permitted due to an increased risk of adverse effects.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

The use of this product is strictly contraindicated during both pregnancy and breastfeeding. Females of childbearing potential should use adequate non-hormonal contraception while undergoing treatment.

• Individuals with a history of liver dysfunction or excessive alcohol consumption should use caution.
• Special consideration is necessary for those with pre-existing kidney issues or an underactive thyroid gland.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

The concurrent use of several other medicines, particularly those that slow down the body’s breakdown process, can significantly increase the concentration of this product and raise the risk of severe muscle complications. Maximum dose limits must be observed when taking certain heart rhythm or blood pressure compounds concurrently. Use with specific antiviral drugs is entirely restricted.
