Indications / Uses

COPHILAX Bisacodyl 5mg is used for the treatment of occasional constipation and for bowel evacuation before diagnostic procedures or surgery. It provides relief from constipation by stimulating bowel movements and increasing intestinal motility.

Side Effects

COPHILAX Bisacodyl 5mg common side effects include: abdominal discomfort, cramps, nausea, and diarrhea. Excessive use may lead to electrolyte imbalances, dehydration, or dependence for bowel function. Discontinue use if severe abdominal pain or rectal bleeding occurs.

Directions and Dosage

• Adults and adolescents (12+ years): 1 tablet (5mg) daily at bedtime. Maximum: 2 tablets/24 hours.
• Children 6-11 years: ½ tablet (2.5mg) daily at bedtime. Maximum: 1 tablet/24 hours.

Not recommended for children under 6 years. Maximum treatment duration: 7 days unless medically supervised. Take 30-60 minutes before breakfast or at bedtime.

Contraindications

Do not use in cases of intestinal obstruction, acute abdominal conditions (e.g., appendicitis), severe dehydration, or hypersensitivity to bisacodyl. Avoid in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

Special Precautions

• Prolonged use may cause electrolyte imbalance or laxative dependence
• Use cautiously in patients with kidney impairment or recent abdominal surgery
• Discontinue if diarrhea or severe cramping occurs

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

May interact with diuretics or corticosteroids increasing electrolyte imbalance risk. Avoid concurrent use with antacids. Separate administration from milk or antacid products by 2 hours.
