Description

Indications / Uses

ZEBET Gliclazide 80mg is used for the management of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (Type 2 diabetes) in adult patients. It is prescribed when strict dietary control, increased physical activity, and weight loss measures alone are insufficient to normalize blood sugar levels. This tablet belongs to the sulfonylurea class of medicines, which works by supporting the body’s natural insulin release. Regular monitoring of blood sugar control is important while using this product to ensure effective treatment.

Side Effects

ZEBET Gliclazide 80mg common side effects include the possibility of low blood sugar, known as hypoglycemia, which may cause symptoms like sweating, feeling hungry, trembling, headache, and confusion. Gastrointestinal disturbances are also commonly reported, and these may include feelings of nausea, vomiting, or changes in bowel movements like diarrhea or constipation. Skin reactions such as rashes and itching can occur, and although rare, blood disorders and liver enzyme elevations have been noted.

Directions and Dosage

  • Dosage for Adults (18+ years): The usual initial dose is 40 mg (half a tablet) or 80 mg (1 tablet) daily.
  • The dose may be increased progressively based on blood sugar response. Adjustments should generally be made in steps of 40 mg to 80 mg at a time.
  • For doses exceeding 160 mg daily, the total amount should be divided and taken in 2 separate daily doses.
  • Do not exceed a maximum daily dosage of 320 mg.

Not recommended for children or adolescents under 18 years old.

Contraindications

The product must not be used by individuals with insulin-dependent type 1 disease. It is contraindicated in patients experiencing diabetic ketoacidosis, or pre-coma. Those with severe impairment of kidney function or severe hepatic dysfunction must avoid using this medication, as well as those with a known sensitivity to the active ingredient, other related compounds, or sulfonamides.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

This product should be avoided during the entire duration of pregnancy. For those requiring blood sugar control during pregnancy, other treatments are recommended. It is strictly not recommended for use while breastfeeding due to the uncertainty of whether the substance is excreted in breast milk.

Special Precautions

  • Requires strict adherence to diet and regular meals to minimize the risk of low blood sugar.
  • The starting dose should be carefully considered and monitored in elderly individuals or those with impaired liver or kidney function.
  • Symptoms of high blood sugar may occur during periods of stress, fever, trauma, or infection, potentially requiring a temporary change in management.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

The blood sugar-lowering effect may be enhanced when used with certain medicines like non-steroidal pain relievers or other antidiabetic agents, increasing the risk of low blood sugar. Conversely, some medicines such as corticosteroids or diuretics can decrease its effectiveness, potentially raising blood sugar levels.

How should I store it?

Keep the product in a cool, dry place away from moisture and heat. Store it at a temperature not exceeding 30°C.
