TRIMEP-2 Glimepiride 2mg is used for managing type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. This medication is typically started when adequate blood sugar control cannot be achieved solely through diet, regular physical activity, and weight reduction. It works by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas, which helps to lower elevated blood glucose levels. Furthermore, this medication can be prescribed as a monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents, such as insulin or metformin, to improve glycemic control effectively.

Side Effects

TRIMEP-2 Glimepiride 2mg common side effects include: Symptoms of low blood sugar, known as hypoglycemia, which manifest as headache, confusion, blurred vision, dizziness, and cold sweats. Gastrointestinal disturbances like nausea and vomiting may also be experienced. Patients should be aware of possible severe allergic reactions, which may present as hives, blistering, or a red skin rash, along with swelling of the face, tongue, or throat. Furthermore, changes in blood cell counts and liver function abnormalities have been reported in rare cases.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults: The starting dosage is typically 1 mg to 2 mg taken once daily.
• Maintenance Dosage for Adults: The dose can be adjusted to 1 mg to 4 mg once daily based on response. Do not exceed a maximum daily dosage of 8 mg.

Not indicated for use in children or adolescents. Maximum treatment duration is determined by treatment progress.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with: known sensitivity to the active substance or other medicines in the same class (sulfonylureas or sulfonamides). It should not be used for insulin-dependent diabetes (Type 1), diabetic ketoacidosis, or in cases of severe impairment of kidney or liver function. The use during diabetic coma is also not allowed.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Use during this period is generally contraindicated. If this medicine is taken while pregnant, there is a potential risk to the developing fetus. The drug may also pass into breast milk, which is why it is not recommended for those who are nursing.

Special Precautions

• There is an increased risk of abnormally low blood sugar levels, especially when meals are irregular or skipped.
• Caution is needed for patients with an inherited enzyme deficiency (G6PD deficiency), as this may lead to a specific type of anemia.
• Patients with severe kidney or liver problems may require alternative treatments.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Combining this product with other blood sugar lowering agents can intensify the effect, increasing the risk of low blood sugar. Certain medications, including anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, and blood thinners, may alter its efficacy and require careful monitoring.
