Side Effects
PIOTAZ Pioglitazone 30mg common side effects include: upper respiratory tract infection, headache, sinusitis, myalgia, and tooth disorder. Some users may experience edema (fluid retention) or weight gain. Rarely, more significant issues such as blurred vision due to macular edema or an increased risk of bone fractures in women may occur.
Directions and Dosage
- Adults (18+ years): 15 mg or 30 mg once daily. Dosage may be increased to a maximum of 45 mg once daily.
Not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Treatment is generally long-term for chronic management of blood glucose levels.
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to the active substance. Patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure. Active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer. Uninvestigated macroscopic hematuria.
Special Precautions
- Monitor for signs of fluid retention which may lead to or exacerbate heart failure.
- Regular liver enzyme monitoring is recommended due to potential hepatic effects.
- Increased risk of bladder cancer should be evaluated before starting therapy.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Co-administration with gemfibrozil may significantly increase blood levels of this drug. Conversely, use with rifampicin may decrease its effectiveness by reducing plasma concentrations.

Store in a cool, dry place at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep the container tightly closed to protect the tablets from moisture and light.
