Indications / Uses

JARDIANCE DUO 5mg / 1G is used for controlling blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus alongside diet and exercise. This dual-action medication combines two complementary mechanisms to improve glycemic control when metformin alone is insufficient. It also reduces cardiovascular death risk in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease.

JARDIANCE DUO 5mg / 1G contains: Empagliflozin 5mg + Metformin Hydrochloride 1000mg

Side Effects

JARDIANCE DUO 5mg / 1G common side effects include: urinary tract infections, genital yeast infections, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Volume depletion symptoms like dizziness or low blood pressure may occur, especially in elderly patients or those on diuretics. Serious risks include lactic acidosis, ketoacidosis, and rare cases of Fournier's gangrene.

Directions and Dosage

• Adults (18+ years): 1 tablet twice daily with meals. Maximum daily dose: Empagliflozin 10mg + Metformin 2000mg.

Not recommended for patients under 18 years. Renal function must be assessed before initiation: Do not use if eGFR below 30 mL/min/1.73m². Discontinue if dehydration occurs. Long-term treatment requires regular monitoring.

Contraindications

Severe kidney impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73m²), metabolic acidosis, ketoacidosis, or hypersensitivity to components. Avoid in dialysis patients and those with severe infections.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Not recommended during pregnancy due to potential fetal risks. Discontinue immediately if pregnancy occurs. Contraindicated during breastfeeding as components pass into breast milk.

Special Precautions

• Monitor renal function before treatment and annually
• Correct dehydration before initiation
• Increased ketoacidosis risk during acute illness
• Monitor for genital infections and UTI symptoms

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Increased hypoglycemia risk when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas. Diuretics may intensify volume depletion effects. Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors may raise lactic acidosis risk. Disclose all current medications before use.

How should I store it?

Store below 30°C in original packaging. Keep container tightly closed and protect from moisture. Do not use if packaging is damaged or expired.
