GLYTHIX MR Gliclazide 30mg is used for the management of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (Type 2 diabetes) in adult patients. It is typically prescribed when blood glucose levels cannot be adequately controlled by diet, physical exercise, and weight reduction alone. This modified-release formulation helps to achieve and maintain stable blood sugar levels throughout the day by progressively releasing the active substance over a 24-hour period. Consistent use is key to effective glycaemic control.

Side Effects

GLYTHIX MR Gliclazide 30mg common side effects include low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), which may present as cold sweats, intense hunger, nervousness, shakiness, or headache. To a lesser degree, digestive tract disturbances may occur, such as abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, or changes in bowel habits like constipation or diarrhea. Skin reactions such as rash, itching, and hives may also be experienced, while severe adverse effects on the blood or liver are considered rare.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): The initial dose is typically 30 mg, taken once daily.
• The daily dose may be gradually increased to 60 mg, 90 mg, or a maximum of 120 mg daily, depending on blood glucose response.

Not recommended for individuals under 18 years old.

Contraindications

This medicine should not be used if there is a known severe sensitivity to the active substance or its related class of compounds (sulfonylureas/sulfonamides). It is contraindicated in cases of insulin-dependent type 1 diabetes, diabetic keto-acidosis, or pre-coma. Individuals with severe impairment of kidney or liver function should not use this product.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Use during pregnancy is not recommended as studies indicate a potential risk, and insulin is preferred for controlling blood sugar in pregnant individuals. Due to the lack of information on whether the substance passes into milk, it is not recommended for use while breastfeeding.

Special Precautions

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Concomitant use with certain other medicines can either amplify or diminish the blood sugar-lowering effect. Combining it with agents like biguanides or insulin is possible, but requires careful adjustment. Other medications can also affect blood sugar control.
