Directions and Dosage
The dosage is tailored to achieve the desired blood glucose level. It must be the lowest amount sufficient for metabolic control.
- Dosage for Adults: The usual starting daily dose is 1 mg. If satisfactory control is achieved, this dose can be used for maintenance.
- The dose may be increased based on blood glucose control, in increments of 1 mg to 2 mg, at intervals of 1 to 2 weeks, to 2 mg, 3 mg, or 4 mg per day.
- Daily doses exceeding 4 mg are rarely more effective. The maximum recommended daily dose is 8 mg.
Normally a single daily dose is sufficient, taken shortly before or during a main meal. A dose reduction may be necessary if improvement in blood sugar control leads to a higher sensitivity to the product.
