Indications/Uses
Oral antidiabetic agent for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initial Dose: 1 tablet per day with breakfast.
Maintenance Dose: 2 tablets per day in divided doses with morning and evening meals or as prescribed by the physician.
Severe Dose: 3-4 tablets per day in divided doses or as prescribed by the physician.
Maintenance Dose: 2 tablets per day in divided doses with morning and evening meals or as prescribed by the physician.
Severe Dose: 3-4 tablets per day in divided doses or as prescribed by the physician.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
GLICLAZIDE should not be used in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. It is contraindicated in patients with ketoacidosis and in those with severe infection, stress or trauma.
Special Precautions
GLICLAZIDE should not be given to patients with severe impairment of renal, hepatic or thyroid function.
Adverse Reactions
Gastrointestinal disturbances e.g., nausea, vomiting, heartburn, anorexia, constipation, and diarrhea are dose-dependent effects. Skin rashes and pruritus may occasionally occur.
Storage
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Protect from light and moisture.
Action
GLICLAZIDE is a sulphonylurea hypoglycemic agent with actions and uses similar to chlorpropamide. It is readily absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and extensively metabolised in the liver. Both unchanged drug and metabolites are excreted in the urine. Its duration of action is 12 hours or more.
