Indications / Uses

DERPSON Prednisone 5mg is used for treating a wide range of inflammatory, allergic, and autoimmune conditions throughout the body. This includes severe allergies, asthma exacerbations, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, lupus, and inflammatory bowel diseases like ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. It is also utilized for various lung, eye, blood, and skin disorders, such as certain dermatoses and specific types of anemia. The active ingredient functions as a glucocorticoid, suppressing immune response and reducing inflammation effectively.

Side Effects

DERPSON Prednisone 5mg common side effects include increased appetite leading to weight gain, indigestion which can be mitigated by taking it with food, and mild mood changes such as restlessness or difficulty sleeping. Long-term use may cause thinning of the skin, a change in body fat distribution resulting in a "moon face" appearance, osteoporosis, and an increased risk of developing infections. Other effects can include headache, dizziness, and slow wound healing.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): The usual starting dose ranges from 5 mg to 60 mg taken once daily, or in divided doses. For acute conditions like asthma flare-ups, dosage is typically 40 mg to 60 mg daily for a short course.
• Dosage for Adolescents (12+ years): Similar to adults for conditions like acute asthma, typically 40 mg to 60 mg daily for short courses.
• Dosage for Kids (under 12 years): Dosing is generally based on weight, ranging from 0.5 mg/kg/day up to 2 mg/kg/day, often divided, with a maximum daily dosage usually not exceeding 80 mg.

Dosage must always be carefully adjusted based on the specific condition being treated. For patients on long-term therapy, sudden discontinuation must be avoided as the dose needs to be reduced gradually over time.

Contraindications

The medication should not be used if the patient has a systemic fungal infection or an active herpes simplex infection of the eye.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Use during the first trimester of pregnancy may carry a higher risk of harm to the fetus, including low birth weight or birth defects. The medication can be transferred into breast milk.
