Indications / Uses

RETENTO-800 Piracetam 800mg is used for managing cortical myoclonus, a condition characterized by sudden, involuntary muscle jerks, and is generally administered as an adjunctive treatment. It may also be used in the symptomatic treatment of psycho-organic syndrome, which includes features such as memory loss, lack of motivation, and attention deficits. The substance is also indicated for the management of vertigo (a sensation of spinning or dizziness). Its mechanism of action is believed to be linked to enhancing communication between the two hemispheres of the brain.

Side Effects

RETENTO-800 Piracetam 800mg common side effects include nervousness, increased movement (hyperkinesia), and weight gain. Some individuals may also experience gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, stomach pain, or diarrhea, especially at the start of treatment. Central nervous system effects like anxiety, insomnia, or drowsiness may also occur. Any sudden changes in mood or behavior should be noted immediately.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years) with Myoclonus: Initial daily dosage is typically 7.2 g, divided into 2 or 3 administrations. Dosage may be increased by 4.8 g every 3 to 4 days up to a maximum daily dosage of 24 g.
• Dosage for Adults (18+ years) with Psycho-organic Syndrome: Initial daily dosage is typically 2.4 g to 4.8 g, divided into 2 or 3 administrations.
• Dosage for Adults (18+ years) with Vertigo: Recommended daily dosage ranges from 2.4 g to 4.8 g, divided into 2 or 3 administrations.

Not recommended for children under 16 years of age. Treatment duration depends on the specific condition being managed.

Contraindications

The product is not suitable for individuals with severe kidney impairment or those with a cerebral hemorrhage. It is also contraindicated for individuals with Huntington’s disease. Avoid use if there is a known sensitivity to the active ingredient or other derivatives.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

The product should not be used during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. The main component can cross the placenta and is also excreted in human milk. The potential for the product to reach the child must be considered during treatment.

Special Precautions

• Withdrawal must be done gradually to prevent a sudden return of the original condition.
• A dosage adjustment is required for individuals with existing mild to moderate kidney function impairment.
• Caution is advised for people with pre-existing problems related to bleeding, such as gastrointestinal ulcers or major surgery.

The simultaneous administration of a substance that prevents blood clotting has resulted in exaggerated effects when co-administered. Due to its potential influence on platelet function, caution should be exercised with other medications that affect blood coagulation. Interactions with thyroid hormone treatments, such as levothyroxine, have also been reported.
