Indications/Uses
Prophylactic treatment of migraine. Treatment of anorexia of somatic or psychogenic origin in underwt patients, supplementary to the treatment of the underlying conditions eg infections or parasitic disease (including convalescence), chronic diarrhea, anorexia nervosa or states in elderly.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Starting dose: 0.5 mg daily, average maintenance dosage is 1.5 mg daily in 3 divided dose or as single dose at night. In refractory cases: dosage is raised to 3-4.5 mg daily taken in 3 divided doses. Childn Starting dose: 0.5 mg, daily dose may be increased up to 1.5 mg in divided dose or 1 mg may be given as single dose at night.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Narrow-angle glaucoma; urinary retention. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Sedation. Rarely, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation; increased appetite, wt gain; nervousness (childn).
Drug Interactions
May enhance central effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines including certain common cold prep, & alcohol.
