It is specifically indicated for managing partial onset seizures, which may or may not spread to the rest of the body, in both adults and children. Additionally, it is utilized as an add-on therapy for myoclonic seizures in juvenile myoclonic epilepsy and for primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures.

Side Effects
LEVELEPTIC Levetiracetam 500mg common side effects include: feelings of sleepiness, dizziness, weakness, and fatigue, particularly at the start of therapy. Changes in mood and behavior, such as increased aggression, irritability, anxiety, and hostility are also commonly observed. More serious but less frequent effects involve severe psychiatric symptoms, including depression and suicidal ideation, and potential serious skin reactions.
Directions and Dosage
- Dosage for Adults (16+ years): The usual starting dosage is 500 mg taken two times daily. The dosage may be adjusted up to 1500 mg taken two times daily (3000 mg total daily).
- Dosage for Kids (4 to 16 years): The starting dosage is calculated by weight, typically 10 mg per kg of body weight, taken two times daily. The dosage can be increased up to 30 mg per kg of body weight, two times daily.
- Dosage for Infants and younger Kids: Weight-based dosage adjustment is required.
The dosage for individuals with reduced kidney function must be adjusted downward. The maximum daily dosage for adults is 3000 mg.
Contraindications
This product is contraindicated for individuals who have a known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to the compound or to other chemical substances belonging to the pyrrolidone derivatives class.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
The compound passes into maternal milk. Use during this period is generally not recommended as the potential effects on the breastfed infant are not fully established.
Special Precautions
- Individuals should be monitored for the emergence or worsening of depression, mood changes, or suicidal thoughts.
- Discontinuation of the compound must be done gradually over several weeks to prevent an increase in seizure frequency.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?
The compound shows very limited interaction with other substances metabolized by liver enzymes. However, substances such as methotrexate may have their clearance reduced when taken simultaneously with this compound, potentially leading to increased blood levels.
