ZENOBLOC-50 Atenolol 50mg is used for the management of various heart-related conditions including high blood pressure (hypertension), chest pain (angina pectoris), and certain heart rhythm disorders (cardiac arrhythmias). It is also used as an early intervention and long-term treatment after a heart attack (myocardial infarction) to reduce the risk of future events. By working to block nerve impulses in the heart, it helps the heart beat slower and with less force, effectively lowering blood pressure and reducing the heart's workload.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (Hypertension): The usual starting amount is 50 mg daily as a single oral dose. This may be increased to a maximum of 100 mg daily as a single dose after 1 to 2 weeks if the initial amount is not sufficient.
• Dosage for Adults (Angina): Most individuals respond to 100 mg given orally once daily, or 50 mg given twice daily. Do not exceed 100 mg daily.
• Dosage for Adults (Arrhythmias): A suitable oral maintenance amount is 50 mg to 100 mg daily, given as a single dose, following control of the condition with an initial intravenous amount.

Doses must be reduced in individuals with impaired kidney function. This medicine is not typically recommended for children as a long-term treatment for these conditions.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used by individuals with certain severe heart conditions, including uncontrolled heart failure, very slow heart rate (severe bradycardia), and cardiogenic shock. It is also not suitable for those with severe peripheral arterial circulatory problems or a known history of sensitivity to the substance.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

The use of this medicine during the later stages of pregnancy has been associated with low blood pressure, low blood sugar, and a slow heart rate in the newborn. When used during lactation, the substance is transferred to the milk and may present a risk of these effects in the nursing individual.

Special Precautions

• Stopping this medicine suddenly should be strictly avoided; the amount should be reduced gradually over 7 to 14 days, particularly in those with heart disease.
