Description

Indications / Uses

ZENOBLOC-100 Atenolol 100mg is used for the management of high blood pressure, a condition known as hypertension. It also serves as a treatment for chronic stable angina pectoris, helping to relieve chest pain. Furthermore, it is indicated for the management of certain cardiac dysrhythmias and to improve survival rates following a heart attack. This medication helps to slow the heart rate and reduce the heart's workload, which contributes to its therapeutic effects.

Formulation / Ingredients

ZENOBLOC-100 Atenolol 100mg contains: Atenolol 100mg

Side Effects

ZENOBLOC-100 Atenolol 100mg common side effects include: fatigue, dizziness, and a feeling of coldness in the extremities like the hands and feet. Other frequently reported effects can involve gastrointestinal upset such as nausea or diarrhea, and sometimes sleep disturbances. Less common, but notable effects may include bradycardia (a slow heart rate) or the development of signs of heart failure, such as swelling or shortness of breath. This medicine may also cause blurred vision and mood changes like depression.

Directions and Dosage

  • Dosage for Adults (18+ years) for Hypertension: The usual starting oral dose is 25-50 mg once daily. This may be increased to 100 mg once daily for optimal blood pressure control. Increasing the dose beyond 100 mg daily typically does not lead to further improvement.
  • Dosage for Adults (18+ years) for Angina: The initial oral dose is 50 mg once daily. If a satisfactory response is not achieved after 1 week, the dose may be increased to 100 mg once daily. Some individuals may need 200 mg once daily for a full effect.
  • Dosage for Adults (18+ years) for Post Myocardial Infarction: Secondary prevention dosage is 100 mg orally once daily.

Maximum daily dosage for most indications is 100 mg daily, though some angina patients may require up to 200 mg. Dosage adjustment is required in individuals with reduced kidney function. This medication is not recommended for use in children and adolescents.

Contraindications

This medication must not be used by individuals with cardiogenic shock, untreated heart failure, or certain types of heart block (second- or third-degree). It is also contraindicated in those with metabolic acidosis, sick sinus syndrome, or in cases of very slow heart rate (bradycardia) when it is symptomatic. Avoid use if there is a known sensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the components.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

The use of this product during pregnancy is generally not advised due to potential risks to the unborn baby, including growth restriction and low birth weight. The active substance can pass into breast milk in substantial amounts. Use while breastfeeding is cautioned due to the risk of accumulation in the infant, particularly in newborns.

Special Precautions

  • Monitor heart rate closely; if the resting pulse drops below 50-55 beats per minute and symptoms develop, the dose should be reduced.
  • Use with extreme caution in people with respiratory diseases like asthma, as it may aggravate their condition.
  • The use of this medicine in individuals with an overactive thyroid gland may mask the signs of this condition.
  • Discontinuation of this product, particularly in those with existing heart conditions, should be gradual and carefully managed to avoid adverse events.
  • Individuals with reduced kidney function require dosage adjustments because the substance is primarily eliminated by the kidneys.
  • It may mask some signs of low blood sugar in those with diabetes.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Concurrent use with some calcium channel blockers and certain anti-arrhythmic agents can increase the risk of a severe drop in blood pressure and very slow heart rate. Combining it with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may reduce its effect on lowering blood pressure. It should also be noted that some blood pressure lowering agents may synergistically increase the risk of a significant drop in blood pressure.

How should I store it?

Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and moisture. Keep it at a temperature not exceeding 30°C to maintain its stability.
